DPF's are a joke and not an answer Urea injection that GM is adding to the 2010 diesels is a great system, and people are already bitchn about it, fact is they have been using it in europe with great success for years it breaks the NOx down into harmless nitrogen and water with no effect on performance (its an extra injector that injects a solution that will need to be refilled about every 5000 miles) and its cheap!
Diesels burn hot they have a high combustion heat which is great because it already kills all the HC's damn near, but higher heat naturally has higher NOx no matter what your burning hence the use of egr's on gas motors and some diesels main use to cool the combustion chamber.... and ever wonder why when you lean out a gas engine NOx goes through the roof thats right more heat! its not good no matter what you think about your freedoms and your right to do whatever you want!!! Its not your earth to fuck up sorry, its everyones!!!
Unfortunately we are not all the same we all don't have the same opinion on what we would like to do in this life and what are individual freedoms should be, if a guy wants to murder people shouldn't he be aloud to NO, his freedom causes a problem so it should not be a aloud, doesn't matter what the individuals opinion on there freedoms should be when others freedoms cause a problem in society it has to be dealt with......
Maybe if the world wasn't full of assholes in the first place we would have never gotten to this point but go ahead and get pissed it just gives them more of a leg to stand on! We all have to live here so we have to find a happy medium but getting all cooky about it isn't the answer, maybe start using your energy into making clean diesel performance parts instead of getting pissed over them taking away your polluting toys! But the systems they have in on highway heavy duty and off highway are pretty fuckin awesome. Companys like cleaire have really done there home work and made a good product. Were you guys are fucked is the manufacturer want your $$$$$$$ so the put in there own system that you have to drive 55+ on the freeway for 40 mins. And most people dont do that every day so the things clog up and then you have to have them cleaned. If you guys have a stock DPF the main thing is to not let them idle that will clog the system quicker than any thing. I installed 30+ after market systems on f 350 14,001 lbs and up while i was at cummins and probably another 15+ at a to z bus sales and the work really well. All you have to do is plug your truck into 180 voltage while you sleep and the next morning all clean. These systems are on the heavy highway but it will trickle down to the common joe. The only problem there like $ 5,000 to $ 25,000 depending on application.

When is it too far? When a new motor has $4k in additional shit strapped on it to only cut at LEAST a 1/3 of your mileage right off the top to allow non visual emmission. When we're in a serious oil crisis they put regulations on vehicles that FORCE shittier mileage... that makes sense.

Now where is all that extra fuel going? If matter cannot be created nor destroyed there's a big graph w/ two lines running on it. One side is optimum mileage... the other side is optimum emmission.... when those two lines cross... where do you think it happens? Every time I look at it and do the math I find that it's a wash. Which then makes the rule a gimmick to take more of your hard earned money. A luxury tax, an accomplishment tax, a real american worker tax, reverse indirect slavery.... whatever the hell you want to call it.

Of course clean air is a good thing but these over populated areas are tiny in comparison to the grand scheme of things. If someone wants to tell me how clean to make my vehicle run.... A) I don't want to pay for it because I didn't sign up for that shit when I bought it. You really want to fix smog? really re-evaluate the driving qualification. When your license comes up for renewal you take the driving test again w/ more advanced requirements like what I do with ford. 1/2 the people will lose their license. No traffic, no smog, increased public transit (what the libs want anyways)... all the shitty drivers moving into the city. The city goes up rather than out...... many many problems solved. of course new ones are created but what doesn't cause that.
