My Sister lives in BC and they are working with california and adapting our smog laws also, there is even an article about it on one of your links so canada isn't the answer!!!! They've been hitting industrial areas up there for a while now anyway, running from a socialist movement state to an already socialist country is not the answer

DPF's are a joke and not an answer Urea injection that GM is adding to the 2010 diesels is a great system, and people are already bitchn about it, fact is they have been using it in europe with great success for years it breaks the NOx down into harmless nitrogen and water with no effect on performance (its an extra injector that injects a solution that will need to be refilled about every 5000 miles) and its cheap!

The DPF in your common diesel pickup is a joke. But the systems they have in on highway heavy duty and off highway are pretty fuckin awesome. Companys like cleaire have really done there home work and made a good product. Were you guys are fucked is the manufacturer want your $$$$$$$ so the put in there own system that you have to drive 55+ on the freeway for 40 mins. And most people dont do that every day so the things clog up and then you have to have them cleaned. If you guys have a stock DPF the main thing is to not let them idle that will clog the system quicker than any thing. I installed 30+ after market systems on f 350 14,001 lbs and up while i was at cummins and probably another 15+ at a to z bus sales and the work really well. All you have to do is plug your truck into 180 voltage while you sleep and the next morning all clean. These systems are on the heavy highway but it will trickle down to the common joe. The only problem there like $ 5,000 to $ 25,000 depending on application.

They want to regulate them and retrofit them with smog equip of some sorts. My boss basicly said if that happens the govt. will put him out of business. He can't afford that.

I don't agree that the government has to tell me not to drink from a garden hose, ride in the back of a truck bed, talk on a cell phone or not to chew on a dirt bike engine block. This 100% true there will be a point here in the near future and i mean months not years were any non retrofitted on highway truck will not be allowed in the state. This will make the price of all consumer goods rise do to the hassle and the rise of operating prices for the trucking companys. And this is also forcing mom and pop trucking companys to close up shop because the cost of operation is not worth doing buisness in cali. And we need to create jobs right now not take more away. I agree with this because when its a matter of hurting businesses it ends up hurting the public, but I don't think you should be exempt either, the government hands out so many rebates and incentives to the public like cash for clunkers why not offer it to businesses to help them make these conversions..... And give it time don't enforce it so quickly so it doesn't kill these businesses such as Grading company's like you work for.... But saying you will not convert and freely pollute just so you can fill a wallet isn't right either, and Goodby grading is relatively small in size impose it on companys with a certain size fleet and larger is were it should start

Well said especially the fact that population has grown by leaps and bounds and also number of vehicles per household has also so yeah a few trucks no big deal but multiply that by millions and we have ourselves a problem don't we !! Controlling Smog doesn't dip into our wallets in fact we don't pay a pollution tax yet but unfortunately if the left gets there way we will at that point I will say it is wrong until then check all vehicles it creates private business and helps the economy... bio diesel fuels can pack up to 320% of amount of fuel being converted to energy compared to fossil fuel of the same amount, however we have not come up with an efficient way to make enough yet, soy bean oil and other plants unfortunately have such a high cost of harvesting it makes it worthless, new technology has come up recently were we have found a way to extract it from algae giving it something we can grow on huge scales in a small place which will make bio fuels more available, and its renewable not saying using whats already in the ground which is also made of compresses plant and biological matter problem is it takes millions of years to make it naturally..... And the other thing bio diesel which is the only thing that goes in my tank is 100% USA made fuel, I kinda like my money staying here!!!! Also has a consistent and higher Cetane level do to bio products packing more energy than fossil fuels which in turn raises performance and economy

Test only stations are still private business they only difference from that and a smog check is they are not a repair facility, and are not suppose to give advice or repair your vehicle its simply you passed or you didn't, they did this to get rid of some of the corruption at smog check places were the technicians would help them pass or falsely pass, basically a test only station has stricter requirements and licenses so they could help pinpoint the corrupt ones and run them out the only smog check places are actually at mechanics shops and are not linked to DMV database and are used for the diagnostics of it only.... My dad has had his smog license for over 30 years and has seen this shit go on and it has helped.... Agreed DPF's are BS big time I said that in one of my original postings, Urea injection though is a great solution and has been used in europe for years making diesels (which account for 90% of vehicle sales over there) almost zero emissions, cleaner and more efficient than a hybrid I might add

Bio diesel is so efficent that it eats all the inner lining of regular fuel lines witch intern clogs your whole fuel system have fun with that the first time you have to replace all your injectors or an fuel injection pump im sure you wont be praising the bio diesel gods.

Determining Cetane Number

How Does Cetane Number Affect Engine Operation?
There is no benefit to using a higher cetane number fuel than is specified by the engine's manufacturer. The ASTN Standard Specification for Diesel Fuel Oils (D-975) states. "The cetane number requirements depend on engine design, size, nature of speed and load variations, and on starting and atmospheric conditions. Increase in cetane number over values actually required does not materially improve engine performance. Accordingly, the cedtane number specified should be as low as possible to insure maximum fuel availability." This quote underscores the imnportance of matching engine cetane requirements with fuel cetane number.
Diesel fuels with cetane number lower than minimum engine requirements can cause rough engine operation. They are more difficult to start, expecially in cold weather or at high altitudes. They accelerate lube oil sludge formation. Many low cetane fuels increase engine deposits resulting in more smoke, increased exhaust emissions and greater engine wear.
Using fuels which meet engine operating requirements will improve cold starting, reduce smoke during start-up, improve fuel economy, reduce exhaust emissions, improve engine durability and reduce noise and vibration. Picture this I paid my fair share of taxes right over 2000 a month in total deductions to various forms of government, but when I lost my job and since I was good at saving a little and owning a few things guess what the state denied my son and I for medi-cal because I have too much asset? ? ? which let me tell you isn't much a couple recreational vehicles and a few grand in savings is all, but guess what illegal immigrants are eligible!!! boy I was pissed so for the last 9 months I drained my 401k to pay for healthcare in the off chance that my son or I would need to use it, the new deal with Cobra made it somewhat affordable covering 65% making it around $400 a month for both of us, now with that subsidy gone my payments have risen to $912 a month, so please someone please tell me how I am to pay Rent, Truck Payment, Utilities, Groceries and now an almost $1000 health care bill every month on the crappy $450 a week I get for unemployment? but they had no problem handing my money out to illegals every month, if anyone should get help its the people that paid in not the people that sit around and suck off the government, to top it off I can't find work doing what I do and any job I could take in another industry would pay less than unemployment.... With the California smog, if it is mandatory for us to do it by state law. Then why do we as individuals have to pay for it out of our wallets? The compression ratio of the sample is bracked by those of two reference fuels. The cetane number of the sample fuel isdetermined by estimating between the two reference fuel points.
How Does Cetane Number Affect Engine Operation?
There is no benefit to using a higher cetane number fuel than is specified by the engine's manufacturer. The ASTN Standard Specification for Diesel Fuel Oils (D-975) states. "The cetane number requirements depend on engine design, size, nature of speed and load variations, and on starting and atmospheric conditions. Increase in cetane number over values actually required does not materially improve engine performance. Accordingly, the cedtane number specified should be as low as possible to insure maximum fuel availability." This quote underscores the imnportance of matching engine cetane requirements with fuel cetane number.
Diesel fuels with cetane number lower than minimum engine requirements can cause rough engine operation. They are more difficult to start, expecially in cold weather or at high altitudes. They accelerate lube oil sludge formation. Many low cetane fuels increase engine deposits resulting in more smoke, increased exhaust emissions and greater engine wear.
Using fuels which meet engine operating requirements will improve cold starting, reduce smoke during start-up, improve fuel economy, reduce exhaust emissions, improve engine durability and reduce noise and vibration. These engine fuel requirements are published in the operating manual for each specific engine or vehicle.
Overall fuel quality and performance depend on the ratio of parafinic and aromatic hydrocarbons, the presence of sulfur, water, bacteria and other contaminants, and the fuel's resistance to oxidation. The most important measure of fuel quality included API gravity, heat value (BTU content), distillation range and viscosity. Cleanliness and corrosion resistance are also important. For use in cold weather, cloud point and low temperature filter plugging point must receive serious consideration. Cetane number does not measure any of these characteristics.
Look Danny learned to cut and paste!!! No I know you work around diesels and have a high knowledge of them but bio fuel does pack more energy thats a fact, bio is corrosive but every diesel made after 93 wont have a problem since we stopped using elastomeric seals and went to synthetic, your fuel lines are rated for bio trust me read the manufacturers website, the biggest problem with bio is it washes away contaminants left behind from diesel fuel that previously occupied them clogging injectors, GM and Dodge still warranty injectors as long as you don't go over a certain % of bio which next year there uping the bio content on which they warranty go to GM's site.
What to do about system clogging when switching to bio? start at 5% change filter, go to 20% change filter, got to 50% change filter then you will be safe to run 99% in the summer and change to 75% blend for winter, another thing since the change from 500ppm sulfur diesel to 15ppm sulfur diesel all diesel has a 1-2% bio diesel added for lubrication to take place for what sulfur use to do look it up! Another thing the original diesel made in the late 1890's was made to run on peanut oil So keep buying over seas fuel they want you to believe me....
Ive been running 5% that is all that is available locally and doesn't effect my warranty in my new D-Max I get 1-2mpg better and more consistent power (I notice high water content fill ups at regular diesel pumps) Im at 41,000 and no problems oh yeah and I pay 20 cents less per gallon! No filter or injector clogs!!!
My buddies dodge has been running straight used cooking oil he has a separate tank with a heater and starts and stops it on diesel with over a 140,000 miles since the conversion, Id say it works pretty good, its a 03 dodge.... his mercedes also runs on used cooking oil and with over 200,000 on that one with out issues I like the results! I for one like first hand experience over cutting and pasting from a website my friend! He averages about 40 cents a gallon using used cooking oil he says, beats the hell outta 3 bucks a gallon

Brenden you know where I stand and you know I agree with most of this but Capitalism has its flaws too just like Socialism, that's why we set up Democracy so that people could vote to find a balance between all the different types, and the government was set up for more than just protection, have you ever read the constitution? Im not saying that bio is bad for our environment. Im saying ive seen first hand the affect of it. If you trust it go for it. When i was at holt umm i think it started in 2006 2007 the fuel companys started toying with low sulfure diesel this was fun to deal with we had injection pump failures left and right we couldnt figure it out well in the end it was the fuel that caused lack of lubrication. Easy fix we started selling a fuel stabilizer. But once again a a man dated law costed CAT millions of dollars in waranty reapiar. And now the owner operater has as extra cost every month due to the government who used us as ginny pigs.Im sure by now they have it pretty well dialed after using us as an there R AND D group. And im shooting from the hip here, ill look it up in a bit but doesnt the goverment tax people for making there own bio diesel?

Prof. Mesquita has been named by the history channel as the next Nostradomus and for good reason, I like this guy using computer algorithm to predict things because people are unbalanced they make decision based between what they believe in and what gets them more praise, power, or winning votes in a political setting (ego takes over)
