| | cold starting issues (11th Jun 09 at 1:39pm UTC) | | WTF? I cant seem to pinpoint this problem on my cruiser. OK, the engine is a stock TBI 350. Every morning when I try to start the engine it just cranks over and never fires. It has good spark and 12v to the coil while cranking. When the temperature outside warms up, the engine starts fine. Crazy huh? With the engine running I have 15psi at the throttle body. Timing is set at 0deg with the tan wire disconnected. No codes are present on the OBD port. So far I have replaced: ignition module cap rotor spark plugs plug wires fuel pump distributor IAC

| | Re: cold starting issues (15th Jun 09 at 1:39am UTC) | | A temp sensor would most likely trigger a code. ECM needs to know when to go into closed loop, and if not sensing would set a type of code like engine takes to long to operating temp or similar.
Have you hooked up a fuel psi gauge before starting, when problem is actually happening? Possible fuel draining back to the tank? Then psi builds back up and fires? Are the injectors leaking?

| | Re: cold starting issues (23rd Jun 09 at 6:33pm UTC) | | I changed the dist yesterday thinking the magnetic pickup was faulty. No go. Fuel pressure at throttle body is 15psi with engine on or off. Im going to jump the obd port again and see if a code comes up. | |

| | Re: cold starting issues (23rd Jun 09 at 7:06pm UTC) | | OK I just read the computer and got a code 42. Ignition Control (IC) Circuit. Is the code 42 from when I had the tan wire disconnected setting the timing? | |

| | Re: cold starting issues (23rd Jun 09 at 7:54pm UTC) | | Just talked to another guy here in the shop, says that if the coolant temp senser is stuck at say 220'ish the PCM wont allow enough fuel to spray from the injectors on cold start. Try unplugging the coolant temp senser and try starting it with "cold" conditions.
Code 42 is a electronic module code of some sorts | |
