The $ 500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 27th Jan 09 at 2:40pm
Since Im new here and some may not know me or my rig here it is....I didnt take to many pics because I was to busy working on it and when Im not working on it Im doing the single daddy thing taking care of my son, so hers what I got......

It strated life as an unabused 85 xtracab in San Jose was a single owner 150,000 mile truck owned by an old man and some fuckhead pill popper bought it :homo: and toasted the motor within a week, throwing a rod threw the side of the block....here it is when I first went to look at it
Image

I gave the Dad of the drugie $500 for it and stuck it on a trailer and took it home, cleaned it up and purchased a motor from Cole (thanks buddy) for $300 and slapped her in cleaned up the truck thru some new killer 31's on it and whabam
Image
Image
Thing wheeled in the sno pretty well I was showing up some lifted jeeps on iron mountain road until I did this
Image My kid didnt know what to think....lol
After putting 5000 on it or so I decided fuck it I like driving my diesel daily better so Im cutting this thing up and building a rig
Image
And there went the neiborhood Cole and I both building rigs at the same time boy our neibors loved us!!! :flipoff: :flipoff:

I just noticed how straight Coles runner was in this last pic LMAO {Grin} {Grin} {Grin}

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 27th Jan 09 at 2:59pm
Basically I ripped everything out from the motor back, both axles and the trans/tcase. Welded up a new front mount plated the front of the frame, Welded new mounts in the rear plated the frame at the slider mounts with wrap around plate and added gussets to the slugs, mounted a cool looking but gay weak ass marlincrawler bumper (which was bent so bad I cut it off after 2 trips to the con') Dual cased the mofo with marlins 10 degree rotated adapter and mounted it with a front range of road crossmeber and used there cut skidplate since the second case is rotated 10 degrees moving the front yoke up higher for more ground clearence I also did away with the lame rubber mounts that break underneath since my shit mounts with a plate and two polybushings on the side of the frame, I also added my own gussets to the plates that came from front range just to make it that much stronger since yota frames are a little on the thin side. gusseted the fuck out of the front axle, welded covers on both and plated around the drain plugs to keep the stock metal from mushrooming around the plug making it worthless (this was a great mod) made some double toyota rear packs for the front and some s10 springs out back which ended up coming out for 64"chevys later cuz they sucked ass (too stiff) Thers lots of little shit like this mod to the radiator support to clear the steering box since I stretched the fron 3 inches
Image

other than that theres a few other things like V6 calipers, doug thorley header, aluminum radiator, dual diaphram brake booster, bigger master cylinder, thick wall driveline out back and now a 1/4" wall for the front cause this happened at soup bowl around thanksgiving
Image
and enough talk hers a few pics

clean little truck. Does it still look like that?

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 27th Jan 09 at 7:32pm
that would be a negative, the driver side took some heat at soup bowl and a few dings on the pass.. And I took one hard in the bed on the driver side that about the size of a basketball but its a wheeler....Im fixing the big dent in the bed., dovetail'n and bobb'n the bed 12inches each way and then as soon as my diesel sells Im buying a bender and its gonna get a cage hopefully by summer I'll at least have the bed done. Its also getting the rear springs inboaded and gas tank moved when I do the other bed mods

How 'bout some recent pics?

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 27th Jan 09 at 8:06pm
The pics of it in the post are from the con on 11/27/08 and the one of it at prairie city was like a month ago but its just a front shot, I just finished it in August so there all kinda recent, next time its outta the garage I'll get some pics of the dents that the only change as of now, it should have 37's on soon a guy on the pirate board is gonna be up here from Socal with some 37 iroks Im gonna pick up in the next couple weeks, I cant wait cuz the 8 inch rims with 4 inch backspacing they dont help the stability it flexs good but would just feel more stable with 10 inch rims and 14 inch wide tires over the 8's with the 35x10.50's just the rims would make me 5 inches wider with 3.5 backspacing 10inchers Id like to find some 2.5 backspace rims

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 27th Jan 09 at 8:07pm
I also have already widened the front axle using ifs hubs so it matches the wider 86up rear without any spacers, and soon I hope to order my full floater kit for the rear that also converts to rear disc, not such a $500 truck anymore I'll say, Ive got some coin and time into this thing

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By SMATHERS (smathers) on 27th Jan 09 at 10:06pm

That what I get for fucking around on a loose pile of rocks at my job, good thing my framer was near by with a gradall to pull me back over. I was getting on the rock on my driver side started to spin and the pass. front spit out a big rock and made a nice little hole I slammed it in reverse just to start tipping ever so slowly and it sat down so nice it didnt even make a noise only put a ding in the bed and a little fender damage that was easily knocked back out the side mirror didnt even break and the truck was resting on it Smiley

The fawker is clean underneath though...lmao Thers the rock behind my front I spit out thats all it took just that extra foot of drop fawked me over...oh well it was fun I was laughing as it went over

I had brand new 35's and I couldn't blow my yota axles and believe me Ive tried!!! granted Im open in the front and I had an un abused front end but the driveline did snap with the motor at 6000 at Soup bowl and nothing happened to the front end!!! Im good though 30 splines on the way there manditory the way I drive with the 38's on there now

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By T-CARP (admin) on 4th Feb 09 at 12:53am
Its odd to me how people who wheel don't realize that its a combonation of traction, gear reduction, and horsepower break things such as axles. Not nesscesarly speed. {Rolleyes}

Thats why I ordered Longs I guess I cant say 30 splines now that trail poo has the dirty 30's out!!!! lmao I just went to 5.29's and a locker finally, I had 4.10 open with 35's so it was hard to snap shit, I can put money that if I had a locker even with 35's I would have changed a birf every trip for sure. I just cant wait to blow the thing apart and put it together, I also ordered arp stud kits for the knuckles and the hubs now that I have larger tires and the longs

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By jeremyhengl (jeremyhengl) on 4th Feb 09 at 12:54pm
open in the front {Cheesy} how did you get anywere ?
okay okay j/k ya i think that is the trick to keeping front end together is leave it open , then you can't get to the hard spots to break it {Grin}

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 4th Feb 09 at 1:07pm
you'd be suprised where you can go open!!! brand new boggers did help a little, ask Cole Ive gone thru places that suprise people...werent you there at prairie city when Me, Cole and our buddy Dustin went thru that big pile out on the track{Confused} I mobbed right thru there the first time without stopping, the only spot at the con' I couldnt concure was the box obviously 35's are to damn small if I would have had bigger tires I would at least have given it a shot Smiley would have made a good show!!! lmao, open front gives you a challenge!!! oh well its locked now, but I do have genuine gears so I think thats my next weak link

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By SMATHERS (smathers) on 4th Feb 09 at 8:08pm

, the only spot at the con' I couldnt concure was the box

or SOUP BOWL :flipoff: but u gave it a hell of a shot,,

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 4th Feb 09 at 9:22pm
I made it further than anyone else that weekend and snapped my driveline trying to go straight up the bitch, it was a sloppy mess there were 2 rigs locked on 38's that did not make it the same time I was going thru, one yota on full widths said he went thru earlier but idk he wasn't gonna try again so who knows....I put money on it if it wasnt a sloppy wet muddy mess there I would have been thru on the first shot, heres a pic of the second run at it, and like my drunk ass saying to zach its going thru or breaking and it ......... broke but I gave it everything them boggers had I worked every line on that thing, you heard them 4 pissed off squirrels crying from a good 1/2 mile Smathers...lol good times Image

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By rockcrawlinredneck (rockcrawlinredneck) on 4th Feb 09 at 9:33pm
What time of year was that pic taken? I have been up through it when it was like that, hell I have broken the ice around/in it too go up it.

well that must be why i dont break shit then cause i've got traction and gear reduction but NO horsepower lol , oh well saves me money on parts :thumbsup: and i get where i wanna go. im changin out the toyota axles anyways so maybe a little harder to snap a shaft then. we'll see what else breaks first

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 4th Feb 09 at 11:45pm
The pic was 11/29/08 just after thanksgiving, the weather was bitchin like 50/40 but there was left over water from a rain snow mix a week before, it was definatly weird weather for that time of year

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By JBz (jbarrett) on 4th Feb 09 at 11:58pm
hopefully i get my longs and throw them in soon ! we all need to go run shit over!!!

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By yeagley (yeagley) on 5th Feb 09 at 9:49am
You got 3" farther than me. Why? because your 3" longer than me. I had all 4 tires spining in the puddles. I dont think you would of made it if it was dry. Now that your locked up on bigger tires you will have no problem. Unless you continue to wheel at 8000 rpm

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 5th Feb 09 at 11:00am
I usually come up at least 3 inches longer thats nothing new.....lol And I had tires over the top ledge and a good foot in the air when I snapped the driveline trying to get my passanger rear out of that hole that makes a 35 look like a 31, if there were better camera men on hand it would have made a good shot they were all to drunk saying oh my god are you serious!!! Fuck it no front locker means momentum, you got to floor that shit man 55 stay alive, come on cole you know how that works out Ive seen you go up soup bowl at 8-10 mph, at least my new 1/4" wall driveshaft wont let loose this time, I'll be good the next time around 38's locker longs and skinny pedal to the floor look out!!!! I see a rear shaft or diff work being done on the trail though, hey maybe I'll buy your posi 3rd for a spare I might need that out there with my genuine gears, we'll see how they hold up!!! I just hope I can finish what I wont to on this truck before May, I dont want it to be like last summer looking at my rig half built for half the season

Dovetail and a bobb in the works still need to blow my diffs apart install everything and break the gears in!!!!! Oh yeah and dont forget moving the rear springs in, I may just say fuck it and narrow the frame in the back still have the springs under the frame and not have to worry about a 38 rubbin the frame when I flex it out!!!! I need some 2x3 or 2x4 box tube whos got some laying around they dont need{Confused} {Confused}

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By yeagley (yeagley) on 5th Feb 09 at 11:39am
With all this cool shit you just bought you better walk little sluce. Now that you have gears you get to learn how to really 4wheel, not just jump shit. Not saying that is bad, its just a complete different feeling. You will be ready for the summer. I'll make sure of it. We need to get you on the trail more than the 4 times you were there last year. You need to see what Fordyce is all about. I say you have winch hill 3 if you loose the sheet metal behind the rear wheel and fawkin get it.

Give me a couple years to get my house and school done with and I'll go get a new tow rig and trailer and I'll be down there for sure!!

I'm like hengl back when I had toyota axles with 5.29's duel cases and a lock rite up front rolling on 35's I broke 8 stock birfields! Hope you have bette luck with the 30 spline shafts!

I think you broke a birf on my first trip to the Con, back in the day when Tilton and I threw a motor in his Jeep and smashed up for carnage on the con.......Good times. Longfields are the shit. I broke 4 stock birfs the first half of last season. Now with longs I dont have to worry. I try to blow them up, but nothing so far.

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 17th Feb 09 at 2:41pm
30 spline longs are stronger than a factory D60 shafts by a bit and over twice as strong as a stock birfield Im not to concerned about the front its the rear shafts with the 38's that concern me, 30 spline longs take 9000 ft lbs of torque at full turn and its the inner short bar that usually fails not the birf a stocker looses a birf at 4200 ft lbs a D44 only takes 5000 ft lbs before snapping, a D60 shaft not including the u joint cause it would blow up sooner goes at 8200ft lbs, Longfields D60 CV's are the shit they cant give a number because at 16,000 ft lbs the table of the machine itself started to flex so they actually havent even broken one yet Smiley Smiley but there a 2000 dollar price tag for those shafts for your 60 ouch!!! but you can be cool and have CV's like us yota guys and say goodbye to lame u joints plus the D60 CV's turn 45 degrees, the stock rears of a yota take 6200 ft lbs and the chromo's only do 7400 ft lbs and have more problems bending do to the torsional load of the semi float design, so Im sticking with stock for now and carrying extra's, thats why my next mod is a full floater kit and chromo shafts once Im full floater I dont have to worry about big tires and weight bending my rear shafts, and I can also order some 300m shafts and never worry!!!

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 17th Feb 09 at 11:55pm
toyota haters...lol the funny thing is if I could start over I probably would have bought 60's, or I would have ordered bare tube 9 inch housings and cut them where I wanted and thrown 60 knuckes on but.....I dont know I like toyota shit cant explain it, and you buy this buy that piece by piece and then you realize fuck I could have bought a 60 or built a custom 9in for that....but oh well, Im not that deep I guess Im just over 2k into both axles so Im not crying yet

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By jeremyhengl (jeremyhengl) on 18th Feb 09 at 8:14am
hey i'm runnin a Toyota too the longs are bad ass , i 'remember before those came out you couldn't give those axles away , now there dam near indestructable , but i must say i paid 100 for my front 60 and 25 for the rear 70 {Grin} you gotta find the rite people that have no fucken clue what they are lookin at {Grin}

Re: The $500 Red Rider - Posted By bkizzle (bkizzle) on 18th Feb 09 at 8:46am

Coming Soon.........Lots of cutting

I took it to prairie city and hammered on it as hard as you can out there to see what was gonna rub, came to realize that Im now gonna hack the front fenders dovetail the front and get rid of the side markers and straight cut the fenders

Need to figure a good way to mount the headlights the stock buckets just dont hold up and get bent and come off the ajusting screws maybe I'll just ajust them and weld the buckets to the core support{Confused} ?? any ideas{Confused} ?

It runs good for four angry squirrels :thumbsup: I still want a 6 or 8 in it but Id probably just start over since the only thing that would stay is the body and thats not in the best shape already :kranker: and more power equals bigger axles, bigger tires, etc, etc, so itll do for now....
