need some help!! (14th Mar 11 at 4:05am UTC)
So my truck wont pass smog. No cat and its smoking like a train. I think I tracked down a cat to borrow for the test.
I took the truck to chevy and they said I have 3 bad injectors. This is on my 2003 duramax. I figured it was injectors because of the bluish white smoke at idle. This is the 3rd fawking time I have had to replace them, first two times have been on chevys dime. So chevy wanted a INSAYING AMOUNT to do the jump. Def not going that route. I have found injectors from the vender on a diesel board that will sell me the same dealer injectors and a install kit for $2000. NOW......... My low coolant light has been comming on lately. About once a month I add some coolant. I have not noticed any water leaks at all. I have done some reasearch and its eaither the injector cups(which if I fix the injectors the install kit comes with new seals to fix the injector cups) BUT...... i have been told that the head gasket could of went and as well. Which is another INSAYING AMOUNT of money to fix. So im trying to figure out if there is a way to test to see if the head gasket is blow, but im not sure if having some bad injector cups will act like a headgasket leak, as far as testing for it goes. Does anyone have any knowledge on these motors. LB7....
Or if anyone out there that knows how to replace these things would like a side job I would be willing to pay whatever.
The shitty thing is i have till the end of the month to get this fixed. Its just the whole coolant thing has me really stressing out!
Any help as to what to test or look for to determine is the head gasket is blown would be great!
Thanks, Bryan

Yeah im pissed! So at work today I couldnt help but start looking for other possible water leaks. That is seriously all I have been thinking about. So searched around under the truck and looks like the water pump may be leaking out of the weep hole!!! Which is still shitty being that the dealer wants $800 for a freaking water pump! But if that is where my coolant is going that is something I can fix and hopefully find a water pump at a reasonable price. So ill hit up Napa here in watsonville top her up with fluid and check it when i get home. But I think i need to eat the bullet on the injectors!!! Smiley

my neighbor has a 2003 d-max , wants me to replace his injectors also....doing some research, asked if he was certain that its the injectors or the injector control module, he wasn't sure. Anyone know if that module can take down individual injectors?

If it is injectors, gonna charge him 5 hundy for the labor and he says he has a connect on the parts

Well thanks for all the replays guys. So I found a friend of a friend that does these injectors on the side. $600 if all goes smooth and the injector cups dont fall out. Sounds like a pretty shitty job!!!!
So hopefully next weekend they will be done. Borrowed a cat so need to rig that on the exhaust and i think were good. Might even make teh dead line of the 31st! FAWK SMOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Smiley
