| | Medical Advice! (17th Apr 09 at 5:27pm UTC) | | So trav and i took the dogs for a walk at OV park on sunday and he had atlas climbing a tree that had fallen down, well trav was standing on the tree as well and bark gave out and he slipped landing on the tree hitting his rib cage. It knocked the wind out of him for a sec. Anyway, long story short, we think he cracked or broke a rib. Its hurts to breath or do anything he says. So has anyone ever experienced this? He doesnt want to go to the doctor b/c to much $$$. But what pain medication can he take or what should he do?

| | Re: Medical Advice! (17th Apr 09 at 5:41pm UTC) | | | I can understand not wanting to go to the doc because of $. I've broken my hand and my foot before and didn't go to the doc because I didn't have the $. As long as it is only cracked and the bone didn't shift he will probably be ok not going. The only thing the doc can do for a broken rib is give him meds. Ibuprofen is ok to take for the pain. He can also wrap his rib cage so it doesn't move much when he breathes. I've done that for bruised ribs. Just my opinion I'm no doc!!!! | |

X2 if it's still real hard to breathe.
Really nothing you can do about a cracked rib.

X2 on the motrin/ibprophen, and the rib wrap. some ice if its visably swollen. Is he bruised/black and blue, or just sore internally?

There is no bruising or coloring. Its more internal he feels. Even barely touching him it hurts. But he called me this morning and today is the worse he said.
From what everyone is saying i probably go get him a wrap and some motrin/ibprophen... and maybe some Tecate.

(17th Apr 09 at 7:46pm UTC) | | my experience with pain meds is they fuck you up and make you loopy but the pain (if bad enough) is still there, you pop a few motrin/advil (ibuoprofen) the pain goes away but its always fun to take both and a few of these :kranker: so your loopy and out of pain I would take him in by monday only if the pain gets worse if its a cracked rib it will still hurt monday for sure regardless, maybe feel his ribs find out which one hutrs him the most and if you can feel the break or not......the doc can get $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and if he can breathe still and isnt coughing blood his lungs are most likely not punctured, but if one is broken and resting on it, it will hurt, but like matt said theres not much but pain meds and wrap the doc can do for broken ribs..... so unless he cant breathe or is coughing up blood I would ride it out!!
