| 4th Annual Cantina for the 'Con Report (3rd Sep 08 at 2:53am UTC) | | The 4th Annual Rubicon Trail Foundation (RTF) Cantina for the ‘Con was held over Labor Day weekend and was a great success on many levels. We had over $20,000.00 in prizes for our drawing (a new record!) and raised $20,083.00 for the RTF! We can’t thank our Vendors and Trail Users enough for their generous support. This year we had users visiting from as far away as Australia! They were treated to a ride on the Rubicon by RTF members, bought a handful of tickets for our drawing in appreciation and won a very Limited Edition Cantina for the 'Con Aluminum Fairlead.
This years event saw the cooperation of several Clubs working together to support the Rubicon. Here’s a list of Clubs and the duties they shared:
*California Creepers: Parking & Traffic Control *Pirates of the Rubicon: Saturday & Sunday Cook Crew, Food Prep & Serving *Rock-N-Roll: Vendor solicitation and Ticket Sale Promotion *Rock Zombies: Sunday Food Prep Crew, Donations for Drawing *Rubicon Rock Heads: Audio/Communication system, Margarita/Slushy, Knob Polishing Booth & Every Trail is Sacred swag. *TDO: Event Planning and Organization, Food Prep, Cook Crew and Serving
The Rubicon Trail Foundation continued to make contact and educate users of the trail, providing maps, answering questions and encouraging proper trail etiquette .
Throughout the Labor Day weekend we handed out Wag Bags and Oil Spill Kits to trail users. These were made available by a Grant provided by El Dorado County and the recipients were very grateful to have them.
The Vendors Showcase also grew this year. These Vendors not only donated product to the Drawing but also spent the time and money to set up booths and show off some of the latest and greatest Off-Road products available. When you’re trying to determine who to spend your hard earned cash with, please give these Companies and Organizations extra consideration:
*4 Wheel Parts- Modesto *Auto Tats- Shirts and Stickers *Davez Off-Road Performance- Also stepped in & served food Saturday *El Dorado National Forest *Friends of El Dorado *Jeepers Jamboree- Also donated (6) Porta-Potties & (2) Wash Stations *Trail Gear *Rubicon Rock Heads
For the 4th year in a row we had Robb’s Valley Resort supplying us with Ice and supplies and for the 2nd year we had Adam from Uncle Toms Cabin as our steadfast announcer. These 2 local business support the Rubicon Trail so be sure to stop in and thank them the next time you visit the Rubicon.
On behalf of the Rubicon Trail Foundation, NorCal Clubs and Vendors, THANK YOU for your generous support! It’s because of you, the trail users and supporters, that the 4th Annual RTF Cantina for the ‘Con was a success!
The last Taco hadn’t been sold and we’re already making plans for the 5th Annual to be held over Labor Day weekend 2009 so, if you have any suggestions on how we can make it better or if you and your club want to get involved, please contact me at mwlangford@comcast.net. I’d really appreciate hearing from you.

I look forward to seeing you all on the trail and hopefully getting the Zombies involved early in the planning stages for next year

I'm sure they would love that. I offered to let them drive my Jeep but they were satisfied just riding and taking pics
I guess the largest tires available down under are 37's so my 42's looked HUGE to them.

We had a nice hike in, the walk back Jimmy was dragging slightly. Not sure if it was from all the booze the night before or sore muscles from so much dropping it like it was hot Haha Thanks to TDO and everyone for all their hard work! Look forward to next year.
