| | Run em???????????????? (17th Jun 09 at 4:25am UTC) | | Mainly for Smurf but all can chime in, should I just put the trans back together? This is what the clutches and steels look like in the first pack, not sure which gear that is, its the first set behind the pump. I have essentially no money at all, till fri the 26th day before donner comp, and its a day or two at least to reassemble the buggy correctly and carefully like I like. But I do not want to do this again before Vegas to Reno. So should I wait it out, skip the comp and replace with some new red eagle clutches and kevlar bands? The bands in it now look brand new since they essentialy are.

Heat is certainly the problem, maybe you need a pulling fan on the cooler? Need to cool that trans down. Not sure what Ford tans normal operation temp should be but I think 275-300 is about normal temp. I know our Dodge tranny's stay about 275 to 310 and there the hottest running tranny's out of the big 3 manufacturers.

Heat was my problem as well, as soon as I moved the cooler to the side of the rig my temp went from 230-250 + to 180 all day long! The cooler HAS to have fresh air being thrown through her.
250 + and shit will be toasted like Jihad in my neighborhood....

Brand new reverse manual valve body, they are Raybestos clutch discs, and I have full line pressure all the time because of the man valve body, infact it pushed the gasket out of the 2nd gear servo cover because of the amount of pressure!! I went down to PDQ today and got kevlar bands but the red eagle clutches and kolene steels were about 140 bones, so I may just wait and do it right. My new Chromoly flexplate should be hear tomorrow, so no more noise hopefully!!!!

| | Re: Run em???????????????? (22nd Jun 09 at 8:19pm UTC) | | Those plates came out of the drum that has the tabs on it for the drive shell to lock on? Those are the direct/rev clutches. Didnt you have something happen when you were in thrid once? At the Hammers? They are pretty dark IMHO. I can get you a set of red eagles and kolenes for 60 bucks plus probably 10 to ship. Pull the spring pack and piston out of the drum, and check em. Also, check the sealing rings that ride on the inside of the drum, as well as where they ride on the drum....... | |
