manual all the way! When I hit the gas all the power goes to the wheels! There is no slipping and heat build up. By the way my 92 cummins just blew the tranny. It should be out of the shop in the next day or so...$3400 later. WTF? POS auto.

I like em both, just depends on the situation. Smurf told me you need a big cooler and a good build and its all good for an Auto. The auto's are great in technical stuff, look at comp rigs now days! Manuel's are Bullet and Dummy proof. Don't know why Bren kill's em but my rig is heavier and has bigger meats and it's fine so far! Thanks smurf!!

Depends on what your doing. Like Big Rob said the autos are good for the more tech parts of the trails and for comps. But what is the fun in that! Personally I will stick with the manual trans! {Grin}

The have only driven manuals on the trail...So i don't know anything else::) My buggy we are building has auto and I'm a bit hesitant. I guess we'll see. People say i will like it better.

As of now..manual {Wink}

I think it depends on the situation as well....I have a manual in my rig, but my BF aka t-carp tells me i should switch to an auto, which we will see. But i think with manual its more of a challenge for me and i love that. If you are competing though, i would deff go with auto.

Re: Auto vs Manual Trans (21st Feb 08 at 2:11am UTC)
I like having an auto, so i dont spill my beer... {Grin} lol. . This last tranny was rebuilt.. but 2nd gear never felt right as soon as i put it in. It lagged bigtime... it tells me that the guy whom rebuilt it didn't do it right... I havnt driven it since the cal expo deal until 2 days ago i thought i'd go rip up and down the street a few times. well shifting it into 2nd, it held real high rpms until i let off, secondarys open of course... then it slowly eased into 2nd. So i dropped the pan today, and holy sh!t there was a lot of metal flake/sludge in there... I think 2nd gear band was almost gone. but o well. $300 im picking another one up friday. better stall converter, and about 8k miles on her... we'll see.
I think the first one was hurting because of no cooler, Original since 1978 and that was when i had major cooling issues with everything, so she ran at 250+ most of the time, and i changed her out before it dumped on me. wasnt exactly dead.
Autos are easy/simple, and now with the doubler, i love the damn thing. and yes 7 trannys in 10 years... lol... Erkel says i'm the only one he knows who has broken a gas peddle... woohoo!!!

I hate my auto.... I would have swapped it out already if I had any ambition to change what's still working. {Wink}
