Well giving this arguement its own home. Let the debate to begin.
The challenge is for you Toyota freaks to sell me on how cool your toyota axles are, if that can be done. So lets here it.
Toyotas suck. They run on rice, you have to have small hands to work on them and the axles explode when you do wide open throttle side to side bounces up obsticles......and who told you I was a freak. I told that broad to keep her mouth shut!!
Depends on what you want to do with your rig? Im sold on Yota cause the rirst time I got to do the Rubicon was in one, and it rolled right through it. If you're looking for something like that ids say Toyota, if you want a Comp rig, then go bigger. Just my weak 2cents
Depends on what you want to do with your rig?
Thats a weak excuse. Uh... I want to four wheel it.

Didnt finish
Well I see for your sig line your rigless. Let me save you some heart break. Don't waste your money building a Yota front end.![]()
Right now I just want to wheel in an out, not looking to run the box or soup. Later on I want to build something for that. So again, what do you want to do with it?
Well I broke my very first j arm just wheeling in nice and easy with my little toyota on 35 inBFG AT's
Stock toy steering: FAIL
Oh ya that was 15 years ago.
I think we all know the a push pull steering wont work, so that doest count. I mean I knew that and I dont know shitThats what the wife says anyways
I didn't know that in 94. Had to make do with it till some guy was smart enough to put an IFS box on an old frame.
hell the first sas I saw had the steering swapped to for the push/pull type.
aftermarket toy parts have come a long way in 15 years..... despite what some of you may think they hold up well, I wheel the shit outta my rig and the axles hold well, my rig looks like its been thru 5 years of hard shit and I just finished it last August and have been upgrading since (it was super clean to start with) so much for a cheap ass ring and pinion I never let break in in the front.... kinda hard when I dont drive with my front in on the street, though I bet some 60 gears would blow too if you bought cheapys and didnt break em in (I was also driving stupid I admit that  played a big role) but other than that there not bad my shafts will hold up better than some stock 60 shafts :flipoff: and they only cost 600 try to buy some upgraded 60 shafts of chromo 44 shafts for that..... Id say the axles are pretty damn strong when you can hammer down with 38's and the only thing that blows is 5 teeth on the ring gear that was new cheap and never broke in, in the same spot Ive seen 60 stuff blow in fact weekend before I heard Brenden lost a stub shaft and J dub lost his rear output.....and if I had better gears (which I will go ahead and spend the 200 over the 125 this time) that wouldnt have happend, and 2 I was driving a little on the stupid side..... but yeah I guess toyota shit is weak :fake: I didnt loose my axle shafts steering back and forth fully locked pinned with 38's or my t case output?
must be that soy sauce, and a welded j arm come on baggy thats asking for it I understand it was 15 years ago but Ive seen some back yard double sheer j arm top and bottom stuff that would hold better than that it can be done....and a good high steer kit for a yota with billet arms and DOM drag link and tie rods is like 300 something come on..... there is a lot of aftermarket support for yotas now in fact they have 32 spline output kits for the t case hmmmm sounds to me like thats what you guys are putting in yor 231's and 300's.... and what comes in an atlas.....and if you wanna do a dig they have bullet proof rear disconnects too... marlin also just came out with 25mm steering pins for the yota so now the kingpin on the trunion is just as big as a 60 sounds like there getting pretty strong to me....... my next two upgrades on my rig are gonna be a full floater kit w/ either 300m or 4340 shafts in the rear and the 25mm steering pin kit in the front, the axles will be damn near bullet proof at that point, cryo the ring and pinion and Ill run it against someones 60's lets go!! and all in all I honestly dont have that much money in them either compaired to a 60 with similar parts, my rig also will burn out and get sideways with my little 4 banger and 38's on the street funny how if you dont have a p.o.s running motor them 4 little angry squirrels do just fine, may not be no cool stock 225 hp 302 or a 190 hp tbi 350 but for a little 2.4 litre 125 ponies aint bad compairing power per cubic inch :flipoff: in fact if you wanna play that game the toyota spanks em' its got almost 1 hp per inch a stock 302 or 350 isnt no were near that.......so sway if you like toyota stuff go for it, if you like jeep stuff or full buggy go for it too....... there all good parts I have nothing against 60's 300's a v8 none of it I just like my toyota sorry if that seems weird to some of you, in fact when I do find a job again in this shit economy I do plan on building a buggy and really I want to find some portal axles I might go 60's or rockwells who knows it depends on the deal I can find and it will have a v8, but I will most likely keep my toyota for trail runs and long camping trips who knows but for now I still love my toyota junk and if you like it too Sway I say buy a TOYOTA and let them talk shit.......
oh did I mention I can drive all day on the trail for 3-4 days on my 12 gallons try that with your v8
Right now I just want to wheel in an out, not looking to run the box or soup. Later on I want to build something for that. So again, what do you want to do with it?
Why cant you do that with a Toyota, with Toyota axles under it?
Soup Bowl![]()
The Box
Did I mention it's for sale?;D
Damn nice rig and believe it or not but I like Dana axles and toyota axles....weird I know!!
I have seen cole go up soup bowl skinny pedal the whole way in about a touch over 2 seconds too.... oh and I think he was still running stock shafts and a posi at the time..... hes got longs now but hey it can be done
Kevin's Toyota is super nice, I know its outta your price range Sway but that thing has everything a trail rig wants and more if you can scrape the money up
Talking shit is one thing speaking from experience is another.I wish I had a scanner still I would throw up some old 35mm's of the yota knocking the Box out with 36's, a Marlin, 5.29's, and a DetroitB-). Oh and it didn't look like a wadded tin can.
.....But comparing a stock 60 to a built Toy is apples and oranges. You build both the 60 might cost a little more up front, but the build prices aren't that much different axle to axle. I can tell you what one you will be happier with. I rocked a Toy front end for years, whatever.... AND broke every part on the axle. Arm studs, birfs, r&ps, lug studs, housings, j arms.
Same goes for the 60 though. Broke a lot of those parts too. Kind of explains my current setup. Those parts were breaking with much big tires and a bigger motor though, not a four cylnder.

I have made soup with stock toy axles too. I know it can be done. Two second soup runs are cool just how many times though before a toy axle gives.
Bwhit = Backing up soup bowl with 47's and 60:beer: Try that with a toy birf.
I have less in my entire rig than most have in there front axle and transfer case with these buggys and jeeps..... Im not saying toy axles clown on 60's they both have there place the toy junk is pretty damn strong these days and all those weak points that you broke have been taken care of, my axle has upgraded steering studs and hub studs, shafts, high steer, the only part I cheaped on was a $125 set of gears and I regret that now, and another thing about my ring and pinion breaking is I had a new 3rd in and was back on the trail 2 hrs later, In my opinion Toyota stuff is damn strong and your right it is apples to oranges I said that same thing in another thread there just not on the same level Im not saying they are, but bang for buck Im sorry I'll stick with my yota stuff for now, and if you wanna have a dana vs toyota discussion comparing dana parts of the same size like a dana 30 or even a 44 which is about the same stregth as a stock toyota axle Im going toyota all the way on that one, 60's are a whole other league......my toyota shit wheels good and is damn strong for the size and the money thats in it, I also like having a rig that can haul the amount of gear I can a buggy or jeep just cant do that no matter what a toy pickup or even 4 runner just has more gear room hands down, and its not some way oversized rig, Im not trying to run 47's if I was I definatly wouldnt bolt them to toy axles, 38-40 is a good tire size for the trails around here and a toyota axle can handle that and they still fit under the truck without it being to tall..... believe me baggy I think your jeep on rockwells is badass I always did think so from the first time I saw it last year at the cantina but I happen to like my toyota shit thats all and you have to admit they make some damn good parts now a days for em'..... and bwhits longfield 60 shafts cost more than my entire front end including other parts around it, I hope it can back up soup bowl
B doesnt have longs. Cuz he is crazy. How much does it cost to build a toy axle with all those things these days?
I would say my heep is a different animal than 98% of the crap out there.
I mean what would it cost to build a toy axle wtih all the bling parts then build a 60 or even a 44?
I have 1700 including hydro assist that isnt installed yet, that includes gussets, extra protection, locker, shafts, gears, widening kit (no spacers on mine), high steer, stud upgrades and of course it was over time I ran it open with stock gears and shafts when I had 35's, buying the 38's I threw in gears locker shafts and stud upgrades all it had when I had the 35's was protection, high steer, widening kit and gussets which was only about 500 bucks worth of stuff, the widening kit uses the ifs hubs so theres no need for spacers its a little more than spacers but I think its more reliable mounting to the wms instead of an aluminum spacer to match the width of the rear, just buying a good 60 is gonna run 800 then I have to dump well over 2000 to add shafts locker high steer and gears...... and if I remember right I think whitakers pirate sig said he had longfields maybe he just has the u joints either way its a built 60 maybe he can share how much coin hes dropped into that thing
and the longfield 60 birfield (CV) style joint shafts are strong as hell and turn 45 degrees but $$$$$$$ like 1400 or 1600 just for shafts I will say though those are badass. .....edit..... just checked his website seems he isnt selling them anymore or the dana 44 ones just u joints now, must have been a little pricy and didnt sell well..... when they tested them they couldnt get a breaking number because the table the shaft was placed on started to bend at 13,000 ft/lbs of force and this was tested at a full turn
That 1700 is right around what I had in my last 60 build up.![]()
600 for the axle, 35 spline outers, hysteer, 5.13's and a detroit, and couple things here and there real close in price.
not doubting you expecially if you found good used deals but I find that a little hard to believe a detroit is gonna run about 600 gears 250 install kit 120 and a setup (unless you did it) 150-200 thats over a grand there plus the 600 for the axle without hysteer shafts or protection like a beefy cover or anyhting, and I built mine over time the original plan was to build a driver and keep it small the only reason I tow it now (the truck still is street legal) is peace of mind knowing if I tear my rig up Im going home with the AC on, and orginally I only put money in the front the rear only got a 20 dollar diff cover.....If I knew I was gonna put bigger tires on and get a trailer later I might have just built a 60 but its not like I threw money away toyota axles have a pretty damn good resale value, 60's were just not in the original budget of building the truck from the stock little blown motor bastard it was I bought a 500 dollar truck a used motor for 300 and had it running and driving for under 1000, my entire build has only cost me under 5000 everything included truck and all the little things
look, there are certain people that NEED bigger shit.those people can break a steel ball in a rubber room. you build relative to your driving style. if you run a bigger motor a better tranny is needed.therefore a better t-case with bigger outputs, bigger axles for bigger tires and so on!! if you run anything on a toy axle bigger then a 39 you are a dumbass.
myself and a few others dont like to break on the trail or period.so we spend the money ONCE to get nice parts instead of replaceing them over and over again. and then you've spent what you could have in the first place.I started with a toyota.4 months after i got it i pulled that stock non sense out of it and put danas under it.I am not a toyota guy, jeep guy, i hold no loyalty to any manufacture except myself. buggys only for me. im sure toyota axles are fine for some of you guys, thats cool good for you. but i will never run them on anything that i own:fake:
Trout I agree with everything you said I am at the limits with my toyota stuff with tire size driving style etc and I fully admit that but again its original plan was a driver/wheeler, and it turned into what it is and still is streetable if need be, theres guys that start with what I had, build something bigger badder, and go back to make things a bit of a challenge again, what fun is the trail when you can drive thru the box with your eyes closed besides being a showboat, Id rather say my 5000 junk went were your 40,000 just did may not have looked as pretty but it went thru........
and to be honest there will probably be a day that I will go with 60's or something even stronger than that, but the point is compared to the size of the components and stuff compared to dana stuff of the same size toyota wins hands down its some damn strong shit for what its doing, no other manufacture out there built parts to handle twice what the motors had and twice the weight of the vehicles toyota did, try going out in a chevy truck with a v8 and a 10 bolt front and see how far you get...I know you wouldnt do that cause it would be stupid but I didnt buy axles to put under my rig they were there I widened the front put high steer on and some protection and ran it thats all...of course later came other upgrades once I went past a 35 in tire.....
and again like I said in the other thread Im a chevy guy but happen to like toyota I like jeeps too and ford and anything else I mean hell they all have goods and bads to them....all the components break there is nothing bomb proof, baggy you may be right about toyota being entry level but there the best entry level truck parts you can get your hands on...I have seen toyota stuff run the hardest parts of the trails around here and not break, hey even in KOH there were a few formula toys that finished the race and 1 or 2 of them damn respectively and that race tested the best of the best parts so to say there weak parts is bullshit....
but again by no means am I saying toyota axles are better than 60's, there are components that make them comparible to a stock 60 but that is all..... we have already hashed this discussion out in another thread and nobody is ever gonna agree but point is they all have there place so pick and choose what you want to build the way your gonna drive it, if you wanna drive it there or trailer it there, tire size width etc, I for one like having a trail rig, Id like to have a buggy to for a short trip or possibly comps but theres times that I wanna go for a week long trip and haul in lots of gear or maybe Im going somewhere in the woods were a super extreme rig isnt needed or allowed...Im gonna want my trail rig, there just two different things
Well said Dan. That is why I ranked them as an entry level axle.
All I will say is that I saw a basicly stock dana 44 under James blazer running 40" boggers do the impossible at the first rock race:o
I have a headach!
b, make paragraphs bro, your shit makes my eyes bleed. its one giant mass of white letters.I have a headach!
there gave it a little spacing...... you guys must have problems reading books then huh :flipoff:
I was trying to brainwash you into thinking toyota stuff was better damnit.....lmao jk
