| | dual toyota cases (23rd Mar 08 at 5:10am UTC) | | so i had stoddard come over and help me identify my transmission and transfer case but we were unsure what they really are.
the transmission is a 5 speed and there is a hole on the bottom of the bellhousing.
the transfer case doesn't have a reduction box, it is all one piece. so i think that it is a v6 case. if it is a v6 case is there an adapter to do this....
5spd to reduction box to v6 case?

| | Re: dual toyota cases (23rd Mar 08 at 5:13am UTC) | | oh shit i just remembered it is a v6 transfer case because i used in and out of 4wheel drive while racing it. and i think you can only do that with chain driven cases.
so ya, possibly a w56 tansmission to reduction box to v6 chain driven case?
or should i just buy a gear driven case and dual both of them?

| | Re: dual toyota cases (24th Mar 08 at 3:17am UTC) | | It is most likely NOT a V-6 T-case. You have to have an adapter to bolt a V-6 case to a 4 cyl tranny. I dont believe that a V-6 tranny will bolt up to a 4 cyl with out changing the bell housing as well. You most likley have a w-56 tranny and a plain old 4 cyl case. If you go to www.marlincrawler.com and look in the tranny and t-case section there is a guide to diffrent trannies and t-cases with pictures and descriptions. I could be wrong on what you have, but with out pic's it is a little tuff.

| | Re: dual toyota cases (24th Mar 08 at 4:24am UTC) | | what the fuck there was no v6 pictures. but the toyota bellhousing off of a late 80's turbo 22re will bolt a v6 transmission to a 4cyl. i have one of those. i need a camera this is retarded i could try drawing a picture but that'd be weak...

| | Re: dual toyota cases (25th Mar 08 at 5:15am UTC) | | transmission is from a 1986 22r turbo R151F top shift.
transfer case is from v6 a VF1A Chain Driven
so now... i also have a 1980 transfer case RF1A top shift. can i use the reduction box from that in between the R151F and VF1A chain drive t-case. the splines are gonna be different but maybe they make an adapter.

No...Well kind of yes. You would have to get new input gear for the '80 T-case in the 23 spline varity. Stock it is a 21 spline. Your tranny (wich is the strongest most sought after stock Toy tranny) is a 23 spline. The chain drive t-case is not as strong as the gear drive ones are. The best thing for you to do in my opinion would be to get another gear drive case, and throw that chain drive up on Craigslist. To make it work you would have to buy either two 23 spline input gears and the 23 spline dual case adapter, or one 23 spline input for the front case, a 23 spline dual case adapter, and a set of 23 spline 4.70 t-case gears for the rear t-case. This would be the best route to go. So in conclusion find one more gear drive T-case and call up Marlin Crawler and drop some coin and end upo with a bad ass all 23 spline ultimate crawler with a final crawl ratio of 223:1, if you have 5.29's in the diffs.
*EDIT* Lower than 2.23:1 I believe the first gear in the turbo tranny is lower.
