Looking to buy a Tube chassis.... (27th May 11 at 3:55am UTC)
I sold my XJ and I am looking to buy a Tube chassis and some axles to start a new project. I was wondering what you guys would do. I am not super rich and would like to keep the price down as much as possible but I still want a decent built 4 seater. If it helps I am thinking of running a Chevy V8 and either Ruff Stuff 9s or Dana 60/70 I am open for all suggestions.

I would go with a 14 bolt over a 70. Stronger and cheaper.

Jimmy's 4x4 chassis look good I will have to contact them about prices. Thanks I forgot about them. I have thought about the 14 bolt but I don't really want to have to shave it down, I know its not alway necessary. I will shop around, I do see a lot of people selling Chevy D60s & 14 bolts so I will keep that in mind. Here is a noob question..... what are the pros or cons to buying a set of dually axles? I see a few whole Ford Dually trucks for sale here and there for pretty cheap. If things go as plan I have about $3500 to get me started.

Dually fronts are wider. 14 bolts are the shit if you don't want to gear lower than 5.38. The lip ain't a big deal.

Dually fronts are wider. 14 bolts are the shit if you don't want to gear lower than 5.38. The lip ain't a big deal. My theory is if an 1 inch of ground clearance at the very center of the axle stop your forward momentum, to the point were you can no longer go down the trail, your a shitty driver.

That is true about the clearance I never thought of it like that. So can you change the knuckles on the dually fronts to make them normal width? From what I can tell that looks like the only difference right.

It the hub itself. You can buy new ones, used ones, or most can be machined down to work.

Dana 70s come with 35 spline shafts hmm if your on a buget for the chassis check out No Limit Fab , Brian Tilton and possibly Silly Fab they've all made good rigs see witch one best fits your style (needs) these guys are all locals too

thanks for the plug jeremy. dana 70's come w/ 32 spl and 2 different 35 spl variations. you can't get 5.38's for them (everything else though and as deep as 7.17) not sure if they have pinion support but pretty sure they don't. 14bolt fan right here
