Im not trying to say im for smoging diesels. Smog checks are never going away. I make sure my shit runs good and doesnt pollute so im not part of the cause of stricter laws

No but black smoke has tons of sulfur that falls to the ground and washes away into the storm drains and into the rivers... I signed the petition but you can thank all the guys that think its cool to have there diesel running in-efficiently puffing huge clouds down the road..... Black Smoke equals a bad mixture of fuel and air and does pollute... Diesels being cleaner than gas cars on carbon is good but diesels produce very high NOx and sulfur, its not good for the earth period... and being since the common good of people here is lost we have to control the idiots that pollute, its unfortunate but again thank all the ass holes that got us here... Ive been behind diesels that make it hard to breathe dont tell me that the air from the truck is clean......or doesnt cause smog cause it does, the high NOx from a diesel can not be seen and it causes smog, black smoke isnt the only issue!!!

| | Re: Help stop California smog on diesels (7th Dec 09 at 2:58am UTC) | | as far as I'm concerned everything forced upon us is a myth now. it's all bullshit until proven a reality. scientists are on the take and it's been proven now. things are shifted and fudged in order to make their "go green" case at whatever expense it may be to the tax payers. Blame is shifted to the conservative side of things because many of us are considered the enemy to their global socialism agenda.
If they don't OUTLAW VOLCANOES then there is no f-cking reason to smog anything. The smallest serious volcanic activity is PROVEN to do more damage than the entire impact of humans worldwide many times over.
Don't jump on the behavior control bandwagon so easily. Dirty isn't neccessarily bad... but you've been told it is and you believe it.

Any exhaust that is not exactly to manufacturer specs auto fail ,visible smoke auto fail, programmers auto fail. And i think it starts at 94 and newer. So it would probably be smart to get a cat and muffler and keep um around for a rainy day

And they get a cut of the smog taxes im sure. But on the other hand after seeing what those dpf" s collect and keep out of the atmisphere its probly not all that bad a thing. I spent 5 days in washington and didnt realize how bad the air quality is around here till on my way back. When all u could see is a layer of smog floating in the valley.

While I see both sides I 100% agree here, we don't need to be spending money in a time like this on this kind of shit...
However this does generate jobs and more business for smog shops and testing equipment company's, and the test for diesels is not all that tough I'm not even sure if there's a measurement of exhaust gases in the test its more a visual and a exhaust smoke test I think

A lot of our smog is from the bay not just here, its pushed in by the delta breeze everyday and Calif. just started to require checks every 2 years for bay area residents a couple years ago or less... geologically were in a bad area for air quality thats most of the problem, dont tell me everyones cars are cleaner up there were there is no smog laws....

| | Re: Help stop California smog on diesels (7th Dec 09 at 4:41am UTC) | | 1998 and newer is getting smoged. A very good friend of mine is with the BAR and is up to speed on whats going on. Los Angeles has been for the last year been performing "test" inspections. LA was the guinea pig for this program. Jan 1st 2010 is when it takes affect state wide. The test/inspection is this
Visual inspection, anything that is not stock or anything that is aftermarket must have a CARB sticker. (untill now, there has never been one) Black smoke test, they rap the engine from idle and its a visual on how much black smoke emmits from the tailpipe. Non factory air intakes MIGHT be ok as long as they still have the factory sensors still inline No DPF (cat convertor) is automatic failure No EGR automatic failure Any aftermarket "go fast" box even visual or connected auto failure
Bottom line is, for all us guys that have spent a shit ton of money on making our rigs go fast and noisey your fawked. I hope you all kept your stock stuff
I kept my DPF and thinking about quietly letting people borrow it for a nominal fee with deposit New DPF's I think are around a grand to buy new, and ya cant buy them used from a wrecking yard as far as I know
And we thought it was fawked when thieves were cutting out our cat convertors for the scrap money
