Jeep tcase help *newb* (24th Oct 08 at 6:21am UTC)

Transfer case help!!
Trying to save a drive if I can.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So i have a d18 in my 66 cj5. It has the warn OD unit installed. I have a muncie 4 speed i want to get rid of for a 420 that i will adapt to the d18 to keep the OD. I have found this on here for sale - 420/d20-18

*****
The whole thing has about 5000 miles on it. Only driven when going wheeling. Currently installed in my FJ40 and can be driven.

The t-case is a Dana 20 case with Dana 18 gears in it. Rear output is offset like the D18. I can provide numbers if requested. It has a twin stick set up on it that appears to be factory, but I couldn't say for sure.

Both trans and t-case were rebuilt by Marlin Crawler about 2 years ago.

Located in Gilroy, CA 95020

$475 or best offer. Pics to be taken soon.

*******

My question is... Will my current OD bolt onto this set up? are the d 20 and 18 cases the same in that acpect? Or can i take off the cruurent case and bolt up my d18 to retain my OD? Any and all wisdome would be great.

I looked up the case info here - But am still uncertain of the interchangability.

Jimmy the 20 is not an offset rear case unless there was a few 20's built offset that I don't know about, but the adapters and bull gear should be the same IIRC......good luck let me know if you want some help with it...later, biggie.

if his 20 has 18 gears in it, then yes it can be offset. The OD will be a direct bolt in. Let me know if you need help. I have done a dozen of these.

See you can learn something everyday.... my grandma was right again.....lol Really though, I have never seen an offset 20? {Unsure} Why would the gears make the case an offset case , unless the case's are the same and theres already provision's in the case for the rear output!! interesting....lol
