so I'm finally picking up the pieces and putting my jeep back together after my jeep imploded on my way out of rocktoberfest.
my broken leaf spring took out my starter solenoid so rather than buy a new starter my brother gave me his spare. hes got an 01 TJ and I've got 93 YJ both 4.0L. does anyone know if there is a difference between tj and yj starters? I ask because after I installed the TJ starter my jeep will start and as soon as i let off the ignition it dies. However, if I hold the key on and keep the starter motor going my jeep will keep running until i let go.
trying to figure out if its just a problem of having the wrong starter or if I have a bigger issues.
sounds like either its the wrong starter, or you wired it up wrong. Some vehicles have a N.O. contacter that closes when the engine starts. When supplied with 12vdc, it stays closed and keeps your ignition powered up. With the key off it will open up and drop power. Check you wiring, then double check it.
