What are the possible ways for water to get into my 22RE Motor? I replaced the head gasket and I had the machine shop look at my timing chain cover to make sure it was all good. Are there any hoses that I may have put in the wrong place that would send water into the motor? Like if I put a water hose where a vacume hose is supposed to be?
Well did you ever bother to rotate the engine by hand to see if your cylinder walls were good? Your might have a pin hole or casting defect. . Is that thing an auto? Could be mixing at the radiator if it is. Or it could be residual oil left over from the head gasket. Are you sure you even have a problem? Did you change the oil yet?
I have not tried rotating it by hand. What does that do? What should I look for when I do it to tell if their is a problem? I drained the bad oil and put in new. It got all white again and discusting like before and I thought maybe it was just from left over gunk in the motor but then while it was running the dip stick popped up and oil started oozing out of the dipstick hole.
Well you can only check the cylinders when the head is off , sorry i didnt explain very clearly. It sound like your head gasket is bad or a hole in one of the cylinders. If it poped the dipstick up that means you have excessive crank case pressure or your are mixing water so much that it is filling up your crank case. Go check to see if your oil level has risen from were you put it when you changed your oil. Is this thing still running like shit? Is this thing turbo?
didnt look at the timing chain cover yourself when you took it off? ive seen quite a few leaking there on trucks that people changed the heads and it was the cover that was leaking and not the gasket
Yeah he said he had the machine shop lokk at it. Thats what i was thinkin in the begining
The dipstick was pushed up by oil. The motor was completely filled.
I did look at the timing cover myself and I couldnt see any problems with it but I took it to Bud at the machine chop too and he put it in his oarts washer and cleaned it up and then looked at it and said it looked fine.
So, are the headgasket and the timing cover the only places where water could get into the oil? or is their somewhere where I could have put a water line on a vacume inlet on accident that would flow water into the motor?
My head gasket was deffinatly blown to begin with, very obvious when I pulled it out.
Im pretty sure you would have to go way out of your way to plumb in vacume into your cooling system. If this were mine id pull the engine and start fresh.but thats just me. i sent you a pm
there is no oil cooler on a toyota auto or not so radiator is outta the question that would make only the tranny fliud milky, it sounds like a cracked block bud sorry! Start looking for a used block or complete engine, even if vacuum was hooked to coolant which there are no vacuum lines large enough on that motor to do so, and it would take months for enough water to reach the crankcase that way most would get burned in the cylinders steam cleaning them
Im guessing there is a blown out coolant passage to the crankcase or oil galley, how is the oil pressure? if its low the blow out is in an oil galley if good its probably to the crankcase either way the block is an anchor with either problem
timing cover is leaking. I'm replacing that today, hopefuly that fixes my problem
Thought you said you checked it! Lol
cant trust anyone but yourself. unless your blind i gess
I checked it and Bud at the machine shop checked it. I'm thinking the crack got worse when I was taking the cover on and off and on and off again.
Anyone got a cover they'll sell me cheap?
Did you take any pics. Lets start posting up pics when we find pboblems. Maybe we can get some tech threads going.
be sure to put the metal timing chain guides on if you havent allready so this wont happen again!

I haven't really ever had a problem with plastic ones....the tensioner going is what usually starts the problem then you loose the guides, idk I don't daily drive mine either but Cole does and he has plastic guides without problems for years, and Im not nice to my motor and it holds
I found one broke the last time i did a headgasket so replaced them with them just to be safe. Not saying the plastic ones arnt good but just would rather save from doing something again down the road if i can protect from it now thats all.
