so they're not CA emission legal. what if i put it on a smog exempt vehicle?
i think lpg is legal if installed by a licensed place.
mine is on my 40 with regular regstration, smogg exempt.
Also if smog exempt, who's lookin at it anyways![]()
word, thats what i was thinking travis.
Whats it going in? What motor?
Im putting it on a 22r, but i was gonna try to find registration for a toyota diesel, and register my 81 that way.
If you can do this I believe you just need a 50 state legal kit..... doesnt need to go on by a certified shop just needs to have a CARB (calif. air research board number) plate to go with it to identify that it has been an accepted product. Which is lame because Propane has way way way lower emissions, I think the biggest issue with them though is your not paying a road tax on propane, I may be wrong here but I think you have to have a registered commercial fleet to run propane at all on the road pre or post smog vehicles....and Im sure theres a permit and tax on that.....they dont like it when they dont get there money from you and they say there not Communist.......but yet they have a say in everything we do now and have a tax and permit for it too....hhhhmmmmmmm
For the price of a gotpropane kit you can put stock EFI on, get a header, exhaust system and be a pimp with EFI in a first gen. I did my 83. The toyots diesel is garbage. Ive seen some run good, but parts are hard to find. EFI was the best thing I did to that truck. I was able to fully get it and not stall.![]()
i tried this. i went to the dmv they said "fill out these papers" no big deal "now you have to go to the smog referee to get it inspected :fake:" there is no way mine would pass. i told the to just give me a green sticker. good luck
You will blow right through smog with a 22re. 1981 was the first year of the 22re

Why wouldnt it pass? most ref stations will tell you what you need to do if they dont like what they see, I have seen tons of motor swaps go thru there 3.4 swaps 4.7 swaps chevy and ford v8 swaps etc., the propane problem is a road tax thing I think you pay more reg or something
? not excatly sure I'll ask the Pops hes a licenced smog tech for 30 plus years

true but if the guy actually had half a brain the cpu knows if its carb or EFI from the VIN but most smog techs dont give a fuck they check the timing pitch off the evap line check the cap visual on the cat and run it they usually dont ask ?'s unless your swap looks jenky
And it was 84 for the truck EFI, 81 for the cars, you know that Cole come on......lol
I never said 81 was the first year in the truck. I was waiting for someone to tell me im wrong.......My 4runner has a EFI Celica motor in it.....you knew that :homo:
And its WAAAAY easier to go to the reff and have him pass a stock toyota EFI setup. I would of done that with mine, but I killed it before smog was up again.
Look at the gotpropane site. It says off road use only.
Oh I agree its way easier to go thru the ref with efi instead of propane :homo: lol its a road tax issue more than a smog issue thats why its off road only, kinda like buying red dye diesel for off road use theres no road tax on it, thats the problem with propane fleets can use it but theres a permit on the side of the truck they pay extra fees for it and have to have there own fueling station on site, kinda like Tysons old shwans truck it was a 8.1 chevy motor converted to propane shwans has a permit and there own fueling setup and its only worth it if you have a high number of vehicles....Go EFI and forget about it, if you want run the efi w/ propane you just swap the injectors out and run a mega squirt efi cpu (its a programmable efi system) and they wont even know your on the bottle leave your gas filler neck so they can check the cap.... and you can even leave the stock cpu in and just swap the injectors and run gas just for your smog test... either way efi is your buddy if you want to stay street legal and its easy to get that reffd, or swap your carb for smog day, there is someone that makes a setup that replaces the air cleaner and you leave your carb on still and then you can just swap the air cleaner for the smog guys

Poor truck.....lol I wonder if tweaker greg will ever get that thing going again

i take you haven't seen how mine is set up. doesn't look pretty but works great.
as long as it works and you dont care about driving it on the street hang it, your going full width anyway right?
6 years now and no issues here. 3 componets + tanks makes up my setup. 350 bucks.
you need a mixer/vaporizer/lock off.
cole, do the 22re's out of cars need a different bellhousing to bolt up to the 5spd transmission?
the pattern is the same his 4runner has the celica motor no mods all 22r's are the same
Yeah, what he said. here is the car my motor came out of.the pattern is the same his 4runner has the celica motor no mods all 22r's are the same
A sbc is way cheaper to put propane on. My grandpa used to have boxes of propane kits off his big delivery vans. Ive seen people peice together a kit for a Toyota for $300-$500. I think its pointless to run propane on a yota when the stock EFI works great. My 4runner gets 15+ mpg and runs upside down. Im not saying propane is a bad thing. if you got it, run it.6 years now and no issues here. 3 componets + tanks makes up my setup. 350 bucks.

nice sticker. I didnt know those cars even came with a t-case.

I actualy had people ask me in traffic. I told them it had 4.7s in the rear case![]()
I kind of miss my $100 scraper. The motor is on its way into another truck of mine. That will make 3 vehicles its been in
