Can someone give me the rundown on steering? - Posted By HOGAN (hogan) on 17th Oct 09 at 3:32pm
I want to know what is an inverted Y setup vs a T setup and so on. I'll do a search but just some input or pics would be nice. Thanks.

I believe this is accurate:

An inverted Y is where the steering systems draglink connects to the passenger side steering knuckle. Somewhere in the middle of that draglink the tie rod mounts to the driver side steering knuckle.

An standard T is where the draglink goes from the pitman are to the passenger steering knuckle and a tie rod connects from the passenger steering knuckle to the drive side steering knuckle.

I think you may be right as well, Thanks lance! Any other input is welcome. (I'm in the process of redoing my steering on the Heep)

The standard T is much better than the inverted Y. With high steer, the standard T is even better.

What are you running?

Go with some high steer arms and do the standard T steering setup. Les binding and if you hit something, your whole steering will not be screwed up.

we'll I'm not going to dump a buch of money into my Rubicon axle but I dont mind drilling and reaming the knuckles to accept the chevy rod ends. When the time came to sell the axles I would include the steering for less of a headache to the buyer. I'm trying to find pics of the diffrent setups to make sure I understans the diffrence.

This is the setup I'm thinking of trying.... http://www.4x4preservation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=479 Any input would be nice, is this still considered a inverted Y considering the tierod runs knuckle to knuckle and the draglink off of the tierrod?

I think that is the standard T. The tie rod connects to the knuckle and the draglink connects to the tie rod that connects to the knuckle. I ran that set up on my EB for the time I had it. You would have to add a high steer arm to get your draglink to tie into directly to the knuckle.

But you can see that the original is an inverted Y.
