I want to link up the front of my 4runner and am looking for ideas. Ive done tons of rears on 4x4s and bagged trucks, but never a front end. I want to run coil springs beacause I cant afford coilovers right now. I was thinking a 4 link with a wishbone upper(would that be a 3link?). Would that need a pan hard bar? Im cutting my frame at the firewall and building a stonger front half that sits about 4" higher than the stock frame rails and ends right in front of the motor, so that will free up some room for springs and links. What are you guys running?

if you're going to continue w/ the steering box you need to have a panhard. the wishbone 3 link you described doesn't allow for a panhard as the upper (or lower) wishbone controls the latteral movement.
A triangulated 4 link controls the latteral movement and doesn't allow for a panhard either.
Options:
parrallel 4 link w/ panhard.
3 link w/ panhard (2 lowers or uppers, and 1 link preferably close to center w/ lots of seperation at the axle)
Radius arms w/ panhard.
Single radius arm on one side and normal link on the other, w/ panhard.
Solid mount wishbone w/ one single centered pivot at the frame side w/ a panhard.
Chose your weapon. There are many little variations on all those and i'm sure someone will post systems I can't even think of.
-you want a 3 link w/ panhard more than likely. if you drive it on the road, radius arms w/ a "wrist" option is nice so you have the effect of a sway bar on the road, and no bind offroad. (budget friendly)

If you want you can come over and check out the front of my toyota. Tilton came over last weekend and helped me 3 link the front. Im running two long lower links and a wishbone upper that fits around the oilpan. I live in Rancho. PM me for directions or cell number

Thanks for the info Phil
The more I think about it, the more I want to move on to a new project. Since I want to change everything and my 4runner wheels pretty good, I think I will sell it and start over. I would like to start with a cab and link it front and rear
I would like to check out your truck some time Matt. Your setup is what I had in mind. Are you doing coilovers?

Yep I'm running fox coilover on all four corners. Should be driveable in about a week. Just waiting on coil springs.
