failed NOx 1997 jeep wrangler 2.5L any ideas? Bad egr?

It may not have an EGR, Chrysler/Jeep is notorious for cat convertors shit'n out. A new ($90) cat will mask alot of problems if your in a crunch to get it smogged. Also, check for vacume leaks

On chryslers the #1 reason for failed smog is a bad cat.

You are correct no EGR. It does have a Aftermarket cat already but may need another? Also was told Decarbonizing works, the water down the intake and fuel system cleansing. I did the h2o down the intake (dripping 20oz bottle) And doing the fuel sytem cleaner.

A generic cat won't work. I've seen a brand new generic cat fail on a early 90's dakota. When we installed the OEM part it passed with flying colors.
